Exercise Physiology

Exercise Physiology can encompass several treatment modalities. Progressive overload to joints and tissues prescribed in the appropriate way can have many positive benefits to the body. Various injuries require load to increase tissue tolerance and capacity so the goal of pain free movement can be achieved. Below are some treatment options we provide that create our holistic approach.

Dry needling therapy at Coastal Health and Rehab
Relieving muscular pain

Dry Needling Therapy

Dry needling is the use of acupuncture needles to relieve muscular pain.

Acupuncture needles have been shown to release taut bands within muscle tissues that contribute to pain presentations.  Needling also produces a histamine response which can be great when needing to reduce inflammation around the body. This response can be shown in clinic using our thermal camera where you can see the before & after treatment response.

Full fee and concession appointments are available.

Clinical thermal imaging at Coastal Health & Rehab
Using thermal to identify inflammation

Clinical Thermal Imaging

Thermal cameras can view inflammation around the body that could be contributing to your pain.

We use a state-of-the-art thermal camera to assess and find inflammation throughout the body that will be contributing to a person’s overall pain presentation. The camera detects increases in temperature with accuracy to 0.07 of a degree.

Where there is inflammation, there is heat, if you find the heat you will find the inflammation.

Full fee and concession appointments are available.

Light Therapy at Coastal Health & Rehab
Fun & Interactive Skill Development

Light Therapy

Blazepods, are light sensors that can be pre programmed to make fun, interactive games to help develop decision making ability, speed, accuracy, fine and gross motor skills.

We find these great with young children as they are having so much fun they don’t realise the true benefits of the task. Older adults who are worried about falls also benefit greatly from improving their decision making ability.

Movement assessment and diagnosis at Coastal Health & Rehab
Using movement to identify intervention

Movement Assessment & Diagnosis

Let us assess you to find your movement diagnosis.

We utilise all of the best movement assessment systems from around the world including:

  • Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA),
  • Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation Assessment (DNS),
  • Functional Movement Screen (FMS),

and many others to accurately find all of the contributing factors to your pain presentation.

This helps us to prescribe the right intervention to create long last results rather than results that are short lived and temporary in nature.

Performance training at Coastal Health & Rehab
Graded exposure for return to sport

Performance Training

Conventional rehabilitation to recover from pain is very different to returning to sport following an injury. The load tolerance a person needs to be pain free when getting out of bed and going to work are totally different to the load tolerance of participating in competitive sport. Coastal Health & Rehab staff hold a Level 2 Qualification with the Australian Strength & Conditioning Association (ASCA) to ensure graduated return to sport protocols can be delivered safely and effectively.

Full fee and concession appointments are available.

Client Reviews

Our client reviews demonstrate our commitment to excellence in healthcare – our focus is always you.

"Darcy is the man! His understanding of the human body is incredible. He was able to get to the bottom of my two main issues inhibiting my ability to sleep and play football in my first session with him; something no one else has been able to do at various different places I have visited for help."
